SENATORIAL RACE

The Senate serves as the upper house of Congress, while the House of Representatives functions as the lower house. Legislative power is vested in Congress, except for matters reserved to the people through initiative and referendum. The Senate holds the exclusive authority to ratify treaties and to convene as an impeachment court.

Automated Election System (AES) 2025

The May 2025 election is the country's sixth automated polls, which started in the 2010 elections.

The Comelec decided to shift from the traditional Vote-Counting Machines (VCMs) that have been in use since 2010, replacing them with new Automated Counting Machines (ACMs) from South Korea’s Miru Systems Co. Ltd.

When voting close on Monday, the ACMs transmit the vote counts – also known as election returns or ERs – to the different servers and canvassing centers in the AES.

From the ACMs, the ERs are transmitted to the central server, to a transparency server, and to the municipal board of canvassers (MBOC).

From the MBOC, the results are transmitted to the provincial board of canvassers (PBOC), where the results are collated and then transmitted to the national board of canvassers (NBOC), where the results for national positions are canvassed.
