Miss Universe 2020 format

Twenty one (21) candidates from the pool will be announced at the start of the pageant, including one contestant, the winner of the online votes cast by fans worldwide. Judging is based on closed-door interview and preliminary competition, which featured contestants competing in swimsuit and evening gown.

The Top 21 will then battle it out in the swimsuit round, with only ten of them advancing to the long gown competition.

After the long gown, the number will be trimmed down to final 5, which includes the question and answer (Q&A) portion.

NOTE: Before, there was a continental groupings for the Top 20, including a set of "wild card" candidates. Current format grouped the candidates randomly. Opening statement portion was also excluded.
