MANILA, Philippines – Miss Mexico Andrea Meza was crowned Miss Universe 2020 on Sunday, May 16, 2021 (Monday, May 17 Manila time) at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood in Florida, USA.
Meza, 26, bested 73 candidates from around the world. Brazil's Julia Gama was named the first-runner up while Peru's Janick Maceta followed as second runner-up.

Meza is now wearing Mouawad Power of Unity Crown, first introduced in 2019 by official jeweler Mouawad Jewelry. It boasts a Golden Canary Diamond weighing over 62 carats, symbolizing ambition, diversity, community, and beauty.
During the competition's Q&A portion, the Top 5 contestants were asked about some social issues.
Meza was asked how she would handle the COVID-19 pandemic if she was the leader of her country. She said: "I believe there is not a perfect way to handle this hard situation such as COVID-19.However, I believe what I would have done is create the lockdown even before everything was that big because we lost so many lives and we cannot afford that. We have to take care of our people. That's why I would have taken care of them since the beginning."
In her final statement, Meza wowed everyone when she addressed "changing beauty standards."
Meanwhile, Miss Universe Philippines Rabiya Mateo managed to reach the Final 21 of the competition.

For me, beauty radiates not only in our spirts but in our hearts and the way we conduct ourselves. Never permit someone to tell you you are not valuable.
