    MMFF 2019: 'The Mall, the Merrier' hits 100M earnings, unofficial ranking revealed

    MANILA, Philippines – Musical family comedy film "The Mall, the Merrier" starring Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis earns big in the box-office despite not winning any award in the concluded Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2019 Gabi ng Parangal Friday night.

    As to most Filipinos, "laughter is the best medicine" every Christmas season, Vice Ganda promotes 'pure fun' and joy and in return winning the hearts of moviegoers.

    During the first day of showing, "The Mall, the Merrier" was the front-runner in the box-office race.

    NOTE: The producers, Executive Committe (ExeCom) and even the theater owners vowed according to rule NOT TO RELEASE the ranking, official earnings and box office gross to avoid the bandwagon effect.

    MMFF 2019 unofficial ranking

    While the release of official figures for the MMFF 2019 is not yet allowed, reliable sources told Pep.ph the unofficial ranking for December 25 and 26 grosses.

    "The Mall, the Merrier" took the top spot followed by surprise hit "Miracle in Cell No. 7" of Aga Muhlach, Xia Vigor and Bela Padilla.


    Coco Martin, Jennylyn Mercado and Ai-Ai delas Alas' "3Pol Trobol: Huli Ka Balbon" ranked third while "Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity" of Vic Sotto at Maine Mendoza in 4th place.

    "Sunod" ranked 5th. The Carlo Ledesma's horror film bagged three major awards - 3rd Best Picture, cinematography and production design in the Gabi ng Parangal.

    The MMFF 2019 Awards Night big winner, "Mindanao" of Judy Ann Santos at Allen Dizon, suffered low ticket sales and settled for sixth spot.

    Iza Calzado and Jasmine Curtis-Smith's "Culion" ranked 7th while "Write About Love" of Miles Ocampo, Rocco Nacino, Yeng Constantino and Joem Bascon was in the last place. The latter won 8 awards, including 2nd Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor and Actress for Joem Bascon and Yeng Constantino.

    The festival will run until January 7, 2020.

    The official ranking of the eight competing films is expected to be announced after New Year. Previous MMFF edition created new record as the festival earned P 1.06 Billion. Vice Ganda starrer “Fantastica” also set record as “highest grossing Vice Ganda movie” with its P596-million worldwide take.
