Smart, MMDA partners for First CinePhone Film Fest 2012

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) partners with Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) for the 1st MMFF Cine-Phone Film Festival with recognition announcement this December 27, 2012 as part of 38th Metro Manila Film Fest.

Cine-Phone Film Festival is under the New Wave Section of MMFF. This is to support film-making competition for the students. According to cinephone.ph, its official website, it is a cellphone movie-making contest for high school and college students nationwide.

Cine-Phone Fest 2012 has a theme "Restoring Road Courtesy Among Motorists and Pedestrians". There will be six (6) winners that are going to receceive P25,000.00.

Through the use of an accessible medium - the camera phone, students have the opportunity to tell unique stories and create quality films. Advancement in mobile technology empowers the capability to produce films with the use smartphones and high-end devices.

MMDA through the Metro Manila Film Festival Philippines (MMFF/Festival), has been handling and organizing the Metro Manila Film Festival since 1975.The MMFF annually presents locally-produced films during the Christmas Season.

In 2011, MMDA Chairman Francis N. Tolentino, inspired by the advent, development and continued popularity of independent films in the country and expressing his support to the sector, announced the addition of the New Wave Section to widen the scope of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). The Section was then composed of the New Wave Full Feature Film and a subsection for budding student artists called the Students’ Short Films.
