MANILA, Philippines – A 39-year-old security guard was killed in a brazen daylight shooting outside a condominium along Yakal Street in Barangay San Antonio, Makati City, on Sunday morning.
Police said the victim, who was on duty at the condominium, was attacked at around 10:40 a.m. while briefly stepping away from his post.
Investigators said the guard was about to eat at a nearby food cart when a gunman suddenly appeared behind him and opened fire.
The assailant fired four successive shots at close range, hitting the victim in the upper torso and both arms, witnesses told police.
The suspects fled immediately aboard a white Honda PCX motorcycle following the shooting.
Authorities said the driver was wearing a motor taxi-style uniform, while the gunman was clad in a black jacket and black bonnet.
The incident was reported to the Makati police Tactical Operations Center at around 10:52 a.m., triggering a swift response from authorities.
The victim was rushed to Makati Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival at around 11:02 a.m., police said.
Personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operatives arrived before noon and conducted a technical examination of the area.
Investigators recovered four fired cartridge cases believed to be from a 9mm firearm, which will undergo ballistic testing.
The victim’s cellular phone and motorcycle key were also recovered and secured as part of the investigation.
Police said the suspects escaped toward Chino Roces Avenue after the attack.
Makati police have identified a person of interest through forward and backward tracking of nearby CCTV cameras in coordination with private establishments.
A Special Investigation Team has been formed to fast-track the probe and pursue the arrest of those responsible.
Police officials condemned the killing, assuring the public that intensified security measures are in place as authorities hunt down the perpetrators.
