Student refuses to return nearly 20k ‘wrong send’ GCash, spends part of money

A student from Cotabato City, southern Philippines, is currently under fire after he allegedly refused to return nearly Php 20k that was mistakenly sent to his GCash account. Although he later sent back a portion of the money, he kept the rest - and even appeared to taunt the sender by sharing photos of the food he bought with the money.

According to the report, the sender mistakenly sent Php18,950 to the wrong GCash account.

In her post on Facebook, the sender explained that she made the mistake at around 12 noon last May 2, 2025. Although she immediately sent several messages to the number she mistakenly sent the money to, the other person didn’t immediately reply.

The guy, who is allegedly a dean’s lister from a prestigious university in Mindanao, refused to send the entire amount back to her. He tried to negotiate, saying that he’s keeping 50% of the money.

Since he still kept more than Php8k of the wrongly sent GCash, the sender begged him to send the rest. However, the guy insisted that it wasn’t his fault that she made the mistake of sending him cash - and he even claimed it was a “blessing” for him.

The sender explained that many of her friends and relatives also tried to beg him to return the money, but he ignored them.

By around 6 PM, with so many people calling him out for his improper behavior, the guy finally relented and sent Php3k back to her - but that meant he still had Php5k+ of her money.

He demanded a public apology from the sender before he would send the rest of the money back. When she refused to publicly apologize, he appeared to taunt her in social media posts, writing that it was “easy money” and that he spent it on food.

The guy explained that the incident happened during the Muslim’s prayer time at noon, so he had put his cellphone away. He claimed that he was shocked to see so many bashers calling him out, so he demanded a public apology from her.

He insisted that she should make the public apology to “clear his name” and he would return the rest of the money.
