MANILA, Philippines – Orocan brand has slammed local and multinational companies for suddenly showing their support to Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz after her historic win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Orocan, which is one of the top plastic manufacturers in the Philippines, called out brands for expressing their support after the 30-year-old weightlifter’s victory and not during the time she needed financial support for her training.

In its viral Facebook post, the brand known for its witty social media posts, stated: “Wag na tayong mag-plastican! Last year, na-seen zone si Hidilyn sa ‘ting mga brands. Ngayon cheer zone tayo sa kanya. Orocan yarrrn?”

The plastic manufacturing company’s marketing release was pertaining to Diaz’s cry for help back in 2019. Diaz, who was preparing for the Tokyo Olympic Games, asked private companies for financial support on social media.

“It is okay to ask sponsorship sa mga private companies towards Tokyo 2020? Hirap na hirap na ako, I need financial support. Sa tingin niyo okay lang kaya, nahihihya kasi ako pero try ko kapalan mukha ko para sa minimithi kong pangarap para sa atin bansa na maiwui ang gold medal sa Olympics,” Diaz wrote.

The brand’s strong message quickly circulated on social media and has earned 122,000 reactions and 54,000 shares as of writing. Several netizens concluded that Orocan has the best social media message celebrating Diaz’s victory.

After beating world record holder Liao Qiuyun of China in the women’s 55kg- class in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Diaz will be receiving millions of pesos from the government and private sectors. Aside from cash, she will also get real estate properties and other perks such as free plane rides for life from various companies and businessmen.
