“It is with deep sadness, yet with full faith in the Almighty, that we announce the passing of our beloved and one and only Bro. Eliseo ‘Eli’ Soriano — a faithful preacher, brother, father, and grandfather to many,” the Facebook page of Ang Dating Daan said.

Meanwhile, the group did not disclose the cause of his death.

“While his temporary repose is a loss to many, WE in the members Church of God International, Inc., would like to assure the public that the programs and projects initiated by Bro. Eli will continue,” it added.

Soriano was known as his signature method of "Bible Expositions" in his radio and television program "Ang Dating Daan" (The Old Path), which started airing on radio in 1980.

With his style of preaching, he received numerous death threats and libel cases. He has since used this opportunity to preach in other countries.

According to MCGI, the show currently airs in 73 countries worldwide including the United States, Brazil, Uruguay, Portugal, Spain, India and South Africa.

"Now, Bro. Eli is more than 70 years old. And yet, he still manages to conduct more or less 10 Bible Expositions in four different languages a week; crossing states, countries, and time zones, be it physically or via satellite points or internet packets," a post from his website said.

Soriano was born in Pasay City in 1947 and grew up in Pampanga.

He was diagnosed with emphysema and congenital heart disease at an early age but able to conquer adversity.

  5. Si Bro Eli ang the best preacher that I have ever heard dito sa Pilipinas and I'm a born again but always watch Dating Daan and I'm telling you i've heard so many Born Again preachers and nothing compares to the wisdom that is being preached by Brother Eli from the Bible. Isang malaking kawalan sya sa Pilipinas dahil haligi sya ng pagtuturo ng salita ng Dios. Madami ang nagbago, bumait at naging Kristiano dahil sa kanya. Thank You brother Eli, We Love you.....kahit malungkot alam ko kalooban ito ng Panginoong Dios. Para kaming nawalan ng Amang nagpapayo at sumasaway pag kami nagkakamali. Hinding hindi ka namin makakalimutan, andito ka sa aming puso at isip. Physical death is just temporal, We will see you again!
