Instead of grand 75th birthday party, Nanay Belen chooses to buy relief goods for Taal victims

MANILA, Philippines – Everything was ready for her party as she turns 75 on January 24 – from the caterers down to photo coverage and to her gown and makeup! But Nanay Belen Mulingtapang canceled the party, choosing instead to use the money to buy relief goods for the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption.

Proud of Nanay Belen, her son Sherwin Mulingtapang shares photos of the relief operation the family did in support of their mom’s wish to donate to the Taal victims. Instead of buying food and other supplies for the party, including giveaways perhaps, Nanay Belen bought 30 sacks of rice and boxes of canned goods as well as noodles.

The entire family helped in packing the food items in colorful ecobags, ready for distribution. Even the kids helped!

In his post on Facebook, Sherwin detailed that everything was ready for his nanay’s 75th birthday party. They already booked the caterers, the event’s place, the lights and sounds, the mobile bar and live band, the photo coverage, and the gown designer and the makeup artist. Almost everything was ready for the big event on January 24.

Yet when Nanay Belen learned about the plight of those who had to flee from their homes due to the eruption of Taal Volcano, she decided that these people needed the money more than she did.

It’s not everyday that one gets to celebrate a 75th birthday party, of course. It’s one of the best milestones in a person’s life. Yet Nanay Belen knew that the thousands of pesos to be spent at the party could already help hundreds of evacuees have some food for a couple of days.

The family even personally went to San Luis to distribute the goods to the evacuees. Nanay Belen and her family earned praise from netizens, with many saying that they could have easily gone on to have the party and no one would have complained, but they chose to do good for many people. Kudos!
