MANILA, Philippines – Maine Mendoza is among the most popular young stars of this generation in the Philippines but this young lady is making waves recently on social media after a young woman revealed that the ‘Kalyeserye’ star offered to help pay a young man’s medical bills.
Going by the handle @cessxxii on Twitter, the young lady posted photos of her sick cousin EJ who has been blind for a long time.
The Twitter user also shared a screenshot of a Facebook post that explained what happened to EJ, identified in the post as AJ Panabo. In this Facebook post by a certain Claudette, it was revealed that EJ had been diagnosed with cyst on his face when he was 7 years old.
Sometime after the diagnosis was made, EJ underwent an operation at Tagum Hospital in Tagum City, Davao del Norte but while the first operation was a success, another cyst grew in its place. This led to EJ’s face becoming disfigured; he had also become blind but though he has been suffering for many years, the now 18-year-old EJ remains a cheerful, smart young man.
EJ’s family and friends, including @cessxxii, are trying their best to raise funds so he could undergo an operation abroad because no hospital in the Philippines is capable of handling his condition; however, this entails a lot of money.
After @cessxxii posted the appeal, Maine (@mainedcm) privately messaged her to offer help. She asked whether there was a crowdfunding campaign where she could send help or if there was another way to donate privately, perhaps meeting the teen’s mother.

Overwhelmed by the offer of support from a popular young star, @cessxxii couldn’t help but post a screenshot of Maine’s message.
Later on, Maine retweeted @cessxxii’s post and urged everyone to help so that EJ can undergo the much-needed surgery.
