MANILA, Philippines – (Updated 6:40 PM, August 5, 2026) Several local government units (LGUs) have announced the suspension of classes on Thursday, August 6, 2026, due to the effects of Tropical Storm Maymay and enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

This list will be updated as soon as local or national authorities make their advisories.

Metro Manila

• Marikina City – all levels, public and private

Calabarzon

• Cavite province – all levels, public and private

Ilocos Region

• Pangasinan
• Dagupan City – no face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private

Latest PAGASA Weather Update

• Tropical Storm Maymay (Kujira) maintained its strength while moving north-northeastward at 10 km/h over the sea west of Ilocos Sur.
• As of 4:00 PM, the center was estimated at 145 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
• Maximum sustained winds are 75 km/h, with gusts of up to 90 km/h.
• Strong to gale-force winds extend up to 180 km from the center.
• MAYMAY is forecast to make landfall over the Ilocos Norte–Ilocos Sur–La Union area tonight or early Thursday (August 6), then cross Northern and Central Luzon.
• It is expected to weaken into a tropical depression by Thursday morning and may further weaken into a low pressure area by Thursday afternoon or evening.
• PAGASA warned that heavy rainfall and strong winds may still affect areas outside the forecast landfall point and confidence cone.

Automatic Class Suspensions

The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued new guidelines under DepEd Order No. 14, s. 2026, empowering school heads to coordinate with Schools Division Superintendents and Local Government Units in determining CLASS SUSPENSIONS based on actual conditions in their communities.

The new policy allows for granular class suspensions, ensuring that only affected classrooms or grade levels are suspended when necessary, instead of imposing division-wide cancellations. The measure also provides guidance on selecting appropriate learning delivery modes before, during and after emergencies to help maintain continuity of education.
