MANILA, Philippines – For newly licensed dentist Jessica Via Sta. Maria, achieving the second-highest rank in the May 2026 Dentistry Licensure Examination (DLE) was more than a personal milestone—it was a testament to faith, perseverance, and the unwavering support of the people around her.

Reflecting on her journey, Sta. Maria shared how her prayers evolved throughout the review period. What began as a hopeful plea of “Lord, top po ha” eventually became a humble request:

“Lord, basta ipasa Niyo na lang po ako,” especially after encountering what she described as a particularly difficult examination and committing a major error during the Restorative Dentistry practicals.

Despite her fears, the results exceeded her expectations. She emerged as Top 2 in the national licensure examination, proving that determination and trust in God can overcome even the most challenging obstacles.

Quoting Philippians 4:6-7, Sta. Maria emphasized the role of faith in her success.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything,” she wrote, recalling how prayer gave her peace amid uncertainty.

The University of the Philippines Manila graduate also expressed gratitude to the many people who supported her throughout the journey.

Although she studied independently, she said she never felt alone. Encouragement from family, friends, mentors, and supporters—whether through kind words, handwritten notes, coffee, or simple gestures—helped strengthen her resolve.

Sta. Maria also recalled a lesson from a high school teacher who reminded her that no examination or number of medals could define her worth as a person. While grateful for her achievement, she believes her story is only beginning.

Now a licensed Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Sta. Maria looks forward to serving the Filipino people.

“The results of the boards don’t define me. It’s time to take on a new role—not just as a dentist, but as a dentista para sa bayan,” she said.

Congratulations, Dra. Sta. Maria!
