DOST-SEI previously announced that a total of 97,617 high school students took the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination on February 21 and 22, and March 7 and 8 across 222 testing centers nationwide.
Luzon accounted for the majority of examinees, with 57,951 hopefuls. Meanwhile, the Visayas and Mindanao regions recorded 21,227 and 18,439 examinees, respectively.
Extending beyond the Philippine archipelago, 48 aspiring scholars took the exam in Saudi Arabia.
This marks the third consecutive year that DOST-SEI has recorded over 95,000 examinees for its annual qualifying exam. In 2025, while 95,654 students were eligible, only 84,518 took the test. Of those, 10,907 students were accepted into the DOST-SEI scholarship program.
Out of this total, DOST will name qualifiers under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program that is dedicated to supporting academically talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
In addition, the list of qualifiers for the Merit Scholarship Program—awarded to students with exceptional aptitude in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics—will also be announced.
These incoming college freshmen qualifiers are set to enjoy their scholarship benefits in the first semester of the academic year 2026-2027.
Qualifiers who will avail of the scholarship will enjoy benefits for the duration of their S&T degree program, which include the following:
- Php 8,000.00 monthly living allowance
- Up to Php 40,000.00 per year for tuition and other school fees in private institutions
- Php 10,000 learning materials and/or connectivity allowance
- Php 10,000 thesis allowance
- Transportation allowance for those studying outside their home province
- Group health and accident insurance
Notices of award will be given to the qualifiers while potential qualifiers will receive an advisory on the requirements they must resubmit. Afterwhich, the students and their parents/legal guardians are invited to attend the orientation on the scholarship policies and procedures.
Availment of the scholarship require qualifiers to enroll in a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program in any of the priority S&T fields of study at a state university or college or any private higher education institution recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a Center of Excellence or Center of Development, or with Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines Level III accreditation for the BS program that they intend to enroll in.
The list of priority S&T programs is posted on the DOST-SEI website.
Scholars may also enroll in BS Sports Science, BS Data Science, BS Agribusiness Economics, and BS Orthotics and Prosthetics.
The DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded to incoming college freshmen who meet specific eligibility criteria and pass the qualifying examination. It aims to stimulate and entice talented Filipino youth to pursue significant careers in science and technology, thereby ensuring the availability of qualified S&T human resources to drive the nation's progress.
Upon the completion of their degree programs, DOST scholars must work in their specialized fields in the country, whether in the public or private sector, for a period equal to the length of years they received the scholarship.
