MANILA, Philippines – Government units have announced the suspension of classes on Thursday, September 25, 2025, due to the impending threat of Severe Tropical Storm Opong (Bualoi), the aftermath of Super Typhoon Nando (Ragasa), and the effects of southwest monsoon (habagat).
UPDATE: Malacañang suspended government work and classes at all levels in Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in view of the forecasted heavy rainfall from Severe Tropical Storm.
Classes at all levels were also suspended in Quezon, Marinduque, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Samar, and Biliran.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA's 5:00 PM update on Wednesday, 'Opong' intensifies into a Severe Tropical Storm over the Philippine Sea.
At 4:00 PM today, the center of Severe Tropical Storm Opong was estimated based on all available data at 670 km East of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
It has maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 115 km/h, and central pressure of 990 hPa.

Track and Intensity Outlook
- Heavy rainfall, severe winds, and storm surge may still affect areas outside the landfall point and forecast confidence cone.
- Opong is expected to move west northwestward, approaching Eastern Visayas–Southern Luzon, and may make landfall in Bicol Region by Friday, September 26, then cross Southern Luzon.
- The cyclone may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday, September 27, over the West Philippine Sea.
- Opong will likely intensify into a typhoon before landfall, weaken while crossing land, then re-intensify once over the West Philippine Sea.
