Philippine Airlines flight to Japan declares emergency, returns to Manila

PAL Flight PR 412, operated by an Airbus A321-231 (A321CEO) with registry RP-C9928, departed Manila at 8:52 a.m. en route to Kansai International Airport in Osaka. At around 10:08 a.m., while cruising, the flight crew detected a cabin pressurization problem.

Following standard aviation safety protocols, the pilots initiated a controlled descent to a lower altitude and declared an emergency as a precautionary measure.

The airline confirmed that the issue was resolved mid-flight, allowing the emergency protocols to be downgraded. The aircraft made a safe landing at NAIA at 11:20 a.m.

All 191 passengers and eight crew members safely disembarked without incident.

In a statement, PAL assured that its ground operations team is assisting affected travelers with meals, baggage handling, and rebooking arrangements for their onward journey to Japan.

“Philippine Airlines places the highest priority on the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew. We are closely coordinating with the relevant authorities,” the flag carrier said.

While the unexpected incident caused delays, PAL emphasized that safety remains its top priority, noting that its flight crew followed strict international aviation protocols to ensure passenger protection.

The airline is working with aviation authorities to review the technical concern and prevent similar incidents in the future.
