MANILA, Philippines – Identical twins are siblings who develop from a single fertilized egg that splits into two embryos. Because they come from the same egg and sperm, they share exactly the same genetic material, making them genetically identical.

The key characteristics of identical twins are they are always the same sex (both boys or both girls); they often look very much alike—same facial features, hair color, eye color, etc; or they usually have very similar voices and mannerisms.

While identical twins share 100% of their genetic makeup, that doesn’t mean they always have the same intelligence or operate on the same "wavelength" in every aspect.

But, the Institute of Biology at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman proudly congratulates its very own “Wonder Twins,” Lance Matthew Fariñas and Hans Joshua Fariñas for graduating summa cum laude with their degree in BS Biology.

These identical twins have not only excelled academically but have also brought honor to the Institute through their individual achievements.

Hans Joshua was awarded the Most Outstanding BS Biology graduate and received both the Academic Excellence Award from the Institute of Biology and the College of Science Excellence Award for Outstanding B.S. Graduate in Biology.

Meanwhile, Lance Matthew was recognized for his research excellence, receiving the Best Undergraduate Thesis Award from the Institute of Biology and the Best Undergraduate Thesis in Biology Award from the College of Science.

Their exceptional performance and dedication to the life sciences reflect the spirit of excellence that the Institute of Biology upholds.

Double congratulations, indeed!
