MANILA, Philippines – Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first-ever foldable smartphone, combining the portability of an iPhone with the larger screen experience of a tablet.

The device folds down to roughly the size and shape of a passport, making its large display more pocket-friendly when not in use.

When opened, the iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch internal display, while its 5.4-inch outer screen allows users to continue using the phone without unfolding it.

Apple said both displays support ProMotion and Always-On technology, with peak outdoor brightness reaching up to 3,000 nits.

The company designed the foldable with a precision hinge and titanium enclosure, emphasizing durability while maintaining what it described as the thinnest iPhone design ever when opened.

The iPhone Duo comes in two colors, Star White and Night Sky, offering buyers a choice between the two finishes.

Under the hood, the iPhone Duo runs on Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, paired with a custom vapor chamber and dual-battery architecture for thermal management and all-day battery life.

The folding design also introduces new camera capabilities, including the ability to use the rear cameras for selfies while viewing the framing through the outer display.

Apple’s 48-megapixel Fusion Main and 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide cameras are joined by features such as Duo Preview and Smart Take, which use the outer display and on-device AI to improve photo-taking.

The iPhone Duo also supports the USB-C Apple Pencil, Touch ID through the side button, and an under-display FaceTime camera.

In the Philippines, the foldable starts at P159,990 for 256GB, while the 512GB model costs P175,990, the 1TB version P207,990, and the top-end 2TB variant P254,990.

Apple said pre-orders will begin October 16, with availability starting October 23 in 70 countries, although the Philippine release date has yet to be announced.

Apple’s entry comes seven years after Samsung helped pioneer the mainstream foldable smartphone market with the Galaxy Fold in 2019, setting the stage for a new rivalry in the premium foldable segment.
