Oath Taking and Roll Signing Ceremonies

The Oath Taking and Roll Signing Ceremonies for the successful 2025 Shari’ah Special Bar examinees shall take place on August 6, 2025 (Wednesday) at The Manila Hotel, One Rizal Park, Ermita, Manila.

Justice Kho said the detailed guidelines on the clearance procedures, including the bar admission fee, documentary requirements, dress code, and other reminders shall be released in due time.

About the SSBE

This year’s exams marked a historic milestone as the first fully digitalized SSBE.

A total of 629 examinees took the 2025 SSBE on Day 1 (May 25), with 628 returning on Day 2 (May 28), according to Justice Kho.

The exams were held across four testing centers: UP Diliman, MSU-IIT, Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU), and Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU).

MSU-IIT had the highest number of examinees (314), followed by UP Diliman (155), AdDU (119), and AdZU (40). Examinees were given the option to take the exam in Arabic, and 92 opted to do so—all of whom were from the UP Diliman testing center.

Of the 628 examinees, 322 are first-time takers, 380 (60%) are women, three are senior citizens with the oldest aged 65, and the youngest is 22 years old.

SC Associate Justice Japar B. Dimaampao explained that those who pass the SSBE may practice Shari’ah or “Islamic law” before the Shari’ah courts, regardless of whether they are lawyers. Shari’ah is based on the Holy Qur’an, the Sunnah (Prophet Muhammad’s traditions), Ijma (scholarly consensus), and Qiyas (analogical reasoning).

The 2025 SSBE subjects for Day 1 included Jurisprudence (Fiqh) and Customary Laws (Adat) in the morning, and Persons, Family Relations, and Property in the afternoon. Day 2 of the SSBE covered Succession, Wills/Adjudication, and Settlement of Estates in the morning, followed by Procedure in the Shari’ah Courts in the afternoon.

The next SBE will be held in 2026 and will be chaired by Henri Jean Paul B. Inting.
