Automated Election System overview

The May 2022 election is the country's fifth automated polls, which started in the 2010 elections.

Comelec once again tapped Smartmatic for the conduct of automated elections, specifically the software that will be used in the vote couting machines (VCM).

Administration of logistics related to the election was awarded to F2 Logistics.

Over 107,000 VCMs from polling precincts nationwide will transmit election results or vote counts – also known as election returns or ERs – to the different servers and canvassing centers in the automated election system (AES).

From the VCMs, the election returns (ERs) are transmitted to the central server, to a transparency media server (TMS), and to the municipal board of canvassers (MBOC).

From the MBOC, the results are transmitted to the provincial board of canvassers (PBOC), where the results are collated and then transmitted to the national board of canvassers (NBOC), where the results for national positions are canvassed.

The MBOC and PBOC also separately beam ERs to the central server.

Transparency server access for poll results

Comelec said they granted access to TMS located at the University of Sto. Tomas in Manila to 20 television, radio, print, and online media. This includes ABS-CBN, GMA, TV5, Bombo Radyo, Manila Bulletin, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, Rappler, among othes.

The poll body also announced that 10 major political parties will have access to the transparency server.

Election 2022 Results Online

Similar with the 2016 elections, the Comelec activated Election Results 2022 website.

As voting closes on Monday, results tabulated from the transparency server will be available for public viewing.

Comelec sees speedy results

The unofficial results showing the winners of the presidential and vice presidential elections will be known just days after the May 9 elections and much sooner for the local contests, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said recently.

“We will have the proclamation of the president by the first week of June,” he added.

Comelec also expected results of the senatorial race in just three to four days after polls close.

Based on experience since the 2010 polls, winners of the Senate race would be proclaimed starting as early as May 15.

Meanwhile, winners of local elections could be proclaimed by the Comelec as early as the evening of May 9.
