Recently, social media went abuzz over video clips of a quiz bee of 'PBB' teen housemates as part of their weekly task. PBB host Robi Domingo asked the housemates several questions about Philippine history and general facts. Unfortunately, several housemates had odd and confusing answers to common questions about our history.

The answer should have been “GomBurZa” but one housemate answered, “MarJo” while her competitor answered, “MaJoHa.”

The same housemates also answered “J.Rizal” when asked for the nickname of Jose Rizal and answered “SLEX” as the country’s longest bridge.

Another quiz bee question goes, “Ano ang tinatawag na summer capital of the Philippines?”

A male housemate answered, “Intramuros” instead of Baguio City as the correct answer.

The answer should’ve been, “Goyo or Goyong.” However, the housemate had a different answer and simply said, “Gregorio.”

While the answer should’ve been “Tandang Sora,” the male housemate had an odd answer and said, “Ninoy Aquino.”

Many netizens expressed their concern about how far-fetched the answers of these housemates were to the supposed answers. Many said that these are real reflections of the quality of our education system, and it’s alarming.

Robi also tweeted his reaction to the incident. He said there’s an education gap that needs to be addressed. He challenged the content creators to help educate the youth on issues and facts about the country.

The High School Philippine History Movement renewed its calls to revive Philippine history as a separate subject in high school. They posted infographics with one stating, “GOMBURZA, hindi MAJOHA.”

According to the organization, the Department of Education (DepEd) removed Philippine history as a dedicated subject in the high school Araling Panlipunan curriculum.
