RECAP: Rabiya Mateo's journey in Miss Universe 2020

MANILA, Philippines – Pageant fans all over the world will witness the crowning of the new Miss Universe queen on May 17, Monday (Manila time).

Rabiya Mateo took the stage with confidence and charm as she represented the Philippines in the world's biggest beauty pageant. She failed to secure a slot in the top 10 and ended her journey at top 21.

Wearing a fringed blue-colored Sherri Hill dress, Rabiya bagged the first slot of the top 21’s third group.

Filipino netizens took to social media to air their enthusiasm and excitement. #PHILIPPINES and #MissUniverse quickly trended as many live tweeted their opinions. Beauty queens like Pia Wurtzbach, MJ Lastimosa and many others were also tuned in and shared their thoughts and support.

As the top 21 candidates strutted on the runway, Rabiya wore a hot yellow Ema Savahl Couture swimsuit and Jojo Bragais high heels. Fans were thrilled to see Rabiya since she won Best in Swimsuit during the Miss Universe Philippines pageant and was named top 3 in Missosology's Best in Swimsuit during the Miss Universe preliminaries.

Pia was confident Rabiya nailed the swimsuit and tweeted, "YES. Our girl was glowing!! Yellow is her color and we all know the swimsuit round is her forte!! Go RABIYA!! #AribaRabiya #MissUniverse."

When Rabiya failed to enter the top 10, Pinoy fans couldn't help but be disappointed. MJ Lastimosa, who was in Florida for the pageant, simply tweeted, "RABIYAAA! [crying emoji].
