MANILA, Philippines – Arnold Clavio earned the ire of netizens after he asked an 'insensitive' question towards a woman who was a victim of Typhoon Ulysses.

Arnold Clavio bashed for 'insensitive' remark

Typhoon Ulysses brought heavy flooding and left Metro Manila and several parts of Luzon in devastation on Thursday, November 12. Among those who were affected by the flood was Angela Jardin, a resident from Provident Village in Marikina City. She and five other people were stranded on the third floor of her house during Typhoon Ulysses' landfall.

Angela was on the phone with Super Radyo dzBB and joined anchors Arnold Clavio and Ali Sotto. As the interview went on, Arnold asked Angela, “Bakit diyan pa rin kayo na alam niyo na lubog noong Ondoy?”

Arnold's co-host prodded, “Kunwari kapag naghahanap kayo ng lilipatan, hindi mo ba natanong, ‘Kamusta noong Ondoy?’”

Angela defended herself and said, "Noong Ondoy naman po kasi alam ko na…" Arnold interrupted and said, "Na mababa?"

The conversation earned a lot of criticism from netizens who called out the radio anchors for being insensitive towards the victim. Netizens said it seems like Arnold blamed the victim for choosing to stay in their house.

A tweet that has gone viral with more than a thousand reactions stated,"Very Unprofessional! Tumawag sa inyo yung tao to ask for help not to be blamed! It's not easy to look for another place to live!! What kind of journalism is this?! And why Arnold Clavio is still in news after grooming a minor before?"

A netizen tweeted, "Good morning puwera kay Arnold Clavio, Ali Sotto, at iba pang taga-media na hilig sisihin ang mga nasalanta kesa tulungan sila at i-expose ang kawalan ng maayos na adaptation at mitigation efforts ng gobyerno. Your show doesn’t deserve a following."

Many netizens called out Arnold and Ali for their "privilege" as they assume that others have options to find a better shelter. A netizen said, "Hindi lahat may magandang lilipatan, hindi lahat may sariling lupang papatayuan ng bahay. Sa tingin n'yo kung may choice sila, d'yan pa rin sila titira? Kung sana lahat may relocation area edi sana lahat safe. Sana all privileged."

Another tweeted, "Haven’t they realized perhaps those people don’t have an option because even if they want to move out from there, nobody is interested to buy their properties if they opt to sell them? Insensitive and stupid.”

“Sana lahat kayang lumipat sa maayos na lugar. Sana lahat may pera. Sana lahat may resources. NAKAKAINIT NG DUGO," a netizen reacted on Twitter.
