Netizens express mixed reactions on Duterte's 5th SONA
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivers his Fifth State of the Nation Address at the House of Representatives in Quezon City on July 27, 2020.
Like all previous SONAs, supporters and opposition of the administration debated online to share their dissatisfaction or approval to the President.

On Facebook, a netizen gave it a thumbs up and thanked Duterte for allowing virtual education. She noted, "Thank you for Mr. President for protecting the students and teachers. Despite all your mistakes in this pandemic I'm still thankful that you didn't allow face to face this school year to resume."

Meanwhile, on Twitter, a netizen felt there were many lacking details on Duterte's message.

Another netizen also defended Duterte and how he worked despite the unfortunate circumstances of COVID-19 pandemic.

"Yes, mahirap kinakaharap niya between economy at COVID-19 na-sandwich s’ya between economy and pandemic, sa lahat ng President siya lang ang nakaharap ng ganyang problema. No other president in the Philippines had experienced pandemic like this before na may ganito kalaking impact sa modern economy, only him, pero still fighting and working to serve the Philippines," the netizen commented.

A netizen said he was disappointed how there was no mention of a concrete plan against COVID-19. He commented, "I heard nothing but false promises, hate speech directed at his enemies, and other nonsense that is a trademark of this inutile administration."

An Overseas Filipino Worker continued to thank Duterte for his concern for the Filipino people. She said that while the President's job is challenging, she hopes that one day more Filipinos would appreciate his efforts.

She commented, "Watching here in the United Arab Emirates. Mabuhay po kayo, President Duterte. Maraming salamat sa malasakit at pagmamahal sa bansang Pilipinas. We are always praying for your good health and endurance, many years of existence. Time will come all Filipinos will thank you for all the changes that you brought to the country. You give us hope and bring back our trust to the leaders of the government. God bless you, PRRD... We will always support your advocacy."

ABS- CBN broadcaster Karen Davila took a swipe at Duterte's tirade against Senator Franklin Drilon.

"Okay, clearly Senator Franklin Drilon is in the President’s consciousness. Mentioning him again in the SONA. Calls him a ‘hypocrite’ brings back oligarchy discussion," she tweeted.

Former Senator Sonny Trillanes, a staunch critic of Duterte also didn't pass up on the chance to express his dissatisfaction over Duterte's promises on the 3rd telco.

  2. I agree. There's no other administration na nakaranas ng ganto kalalang crisis. Same thing with kapag prinarioritize yung health.
I'm not a DDS, and you may not be the perfect president, at least, you're not just sitting and watching the economy landslide and your men die. You still do your best in anyway you can. :>>
