DOH reports 1 new death due to COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) reported today one (1) new death due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

This brings the total number of mortalities in the country to six (6).

The 54-year-old Filipino patient from Lanao del Sur, with code PH40, died late evening of March 13 as he succumbed from Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome due to severe pneumonia with concomitant acute kidney injury.

Patient was admitted at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center last March 3 after onset of symptoms last February 24.

As indicated in the March 13 summary of COVID-19 cases, DOH said that PH40 has no history of travel and exposure.

On March 12, the Health department announced death of three patients - PH6 and PH5 (residents of Cainta, Rizal) and PH37 (Pasig City).

On March 11, DOH reported second death of COVID patient (PH35). The patient was a 67-year-old Filipino woman with no travel history. She was the first Pinoy to die of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Philippines.

The country's first fatality was a Chinese man who was also the first death from the disease outside of China.
