Relationship counselor corrects details of Matteo-Sarah wedding, ensuing fight

MANILA, Philippines – There have been a lot of reports about the supposed civil wedding of Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo, particularly because the bride’s bodyguard filed a police blotter and later went to Raffy Tulfo for help because the groom allegedly punched his throat.

But the couple’s friend and relationship counselor, Letty Fuentes, corrected some of the details that first circulated in the media in an interview with ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe.

According to Letty, it was a Christian wedding, not a civil wedding as was first reported. It happened in Victory Church - The Fort, Taguig last February 20, past 6:00 p.m. The wedding was officiated by Pastor Paolo Punzalan, the Church’s senior pastor.

Speaking as a friend and spiritual/relationship counselor of Sarah and Matteo, Letty revealed that though they were all so surprised about the wedding, they all happy because it finally happened. Apparently, the couple had been trying to get married many times, but these plans repeatedly failed because of Sarah’s mother who continually refused to let them do it.

“Akala ko mag-ka-counseling, dinner lang kami. You see, I was not dressed up. It’s always surprises. And this time it’s also a surprise not even the Guidicelli family knew about it. They only knew the day before. Para hindi na siguro mag-leak,” Letty said.

According to Letty, Sarah was very happy. The two were so happy that the wedding will finally push through.

“Tita, we really decided on this,” she recalled the couple telling her.

“Sabi ko, ‘Kayo ha, nag-sikreto pa kayo.’ Gulat na gulat ako, but I’m happy, because everyone was so happy.”

The mood was happy throughout the ceremony. Letty even said she has never seen Sarah look more confident or happier.

“Parang nakawala. I have never seen her so confident that day,” Letty described. “Iyong finale lang ang masakit.”

The couple even made jokes as they exchanged their wedding vows.

    “Akin kana!” Sarah jokingly said.

    “Finally! She’s mine!” Matteo replied.

Letty also revealed that Matteo was crying during the ceremony and that she knows for sure how much these two love each other.

“Matteo really loves her so much. With all those things, he is a man with commitment. Nakaplano. Wala ka nang hahanapin,” she said.

    Fight ensues

The mood had been generally happy and festive, Letty said, until Mommy Divine arrived. Because she tried to protect Sarah, Letty even had bruises from the scuffle.

“Ito ‘yung nahulog ako, kasama si Sarah. She was pushed, kasi [pinipigilan] niya ‘yung mama niya, e. Naghahabulan. I was holding onto her. Pag-push sa kaniya, ang layo. Gulong. Natumba siya. For a while, matagal siya… Kasi nanginginig,” Letty narrated.

“I know gusto niyang sampalin si Matteo, e. She was ready for a fight. Sabi ng mama niya, ‘Traydor kayo!’ Sigaw-sigaw, ang lakas talaga. Meron pa yatang nagmura or something.”

Letty also belied the claims of Jerry Tamara, Sarah’s bodyguard, that he was punched by Matteo.

“Walang brawling doon, wala ring baril. Kasi nabasa ko may baril pa raw. Kasi to the last moment, ‘yung malaking lalaki doon, sinasabihan ko siya na, ‘Huwag mo na ilapit kasi magkakagulo ‘yan,’” Letty narrated, referring to the bodyguard.

The relationship counselor said that for many years, the couple tried to seek acceptance but Divine remains overprotective of her daughter. Divine had even asked Letty several times to advise Sarah against marrying Matteo, knowing they are close and might listen to her.

“Hindi raw niya tatanggapin. She was trying to sway me to advise her to stay off from him. I said, ‘I cannot do that. I will only say things, then decision will still be theirs,’” Letty said.

Despite what happened, Letty said that the newlyweds remain optimistic as they start their new life as a married couple.

“All these things, I was telling her, ‘Forget it, forgive your mom. This is just a revelation. In time, just pray more. Many people are praying for you,’” Letty advised.
