MANILA, Philippines – Technology has helped make our lives so much easier; that’s a fact. But it never fails to amaze us how so many people managed to create impressive works in the past, even without the advances of technology! For instance, photos of handmade “Excel” sheets recently went viral after a netizen discovered some of her dad’s old reports.
Kathleen Shane Pinlac Sison posted pictures of some of her dad’s reports back when Microsoft (MS) Excel was still not widely available. Netizens were quite impressed. MS Excel was released in 1987, but the reports in the photos dated back to that year.
“We found Papang's briefcase and saw this!!! He was a principal in an elementary school back then. As someone who was born in the advent of technology, I am so amazed. Before Microsoft Excel, there's this! Sipag ni Papang at ang galing talagaaaa!!! 😭✨” Kathleen posted on her Facebook account.
Quite amazingly, the charts and graphs on her dad’s reports are so detailed and colorful. Even after many decades, the reports remain impressive. Anyone who has ever tried making a chart or graph from scratch would know that Kathleen’s dad had definitely spent many hours preparing these reports.
More importantly, though, an eagle-eyed netizen noticed something from the reports: the literacy rate was quite high in these reports compared with data from today.
And while many people would view these reports as rather ‘primitive’ and not so easy to view compared with those done with MS Excel, a lot of netizens were still impressed with what this principal had done. Others pointed out that everything was done manually in the past because there were no computers to help them. But that makes these handmade “Excel” sheets even more impressive!
