MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2019 executive committee released on Wednesday the total gross receipts and top four (4) movies in the box-office race.
MMFF Execom said that the 45th edition of the annual festival raked in Php 955 million or just 4.5% short of the P1-billion target.
Leading the race in total ticket sales are, in no particular order:
Meanwhile, rankings of other four entries were not disclosed. This includes Carmina Villarroel and Mylene Dizon's "Sunod"; Iza Calzado, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Meryll Soriano's "Culion"; Judy Ann Santos and Allen Dizon's "Mindanao" and Miles Ocampo and Rocco Nacino's "Write About Love."
MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia told ABS-CBN's MJ Felipe that "it's up to the producers if they want to release total gross numbers of their movies. The 955M gross does not include international screenings."
Vice Ganda on It's Showtime hinted that his film has earned more than Php 300 million. "Maraming salamat sa lahat ng nakitawa, naki-good vibes. Sa lahat ng nanood ng The Mall, The Merrier, P300 plus million thank yous sa inyong lahat!"
MMFF organizing committe also mentioned that Typhoon Ursula in the Visayas region and the earthquake in Mindanao, both caused closure of cinemas, among the factors why it was hard to surpass last year's record gross in box-office.
First Summer Metro Manila Film Festival
The very first Summer Metro Manila Film Festival (SMMFF) will commence in April 2020. It will open on Black Saturday and will run for eleven (11) days.
Eight full length films will be selected. There will also be a parade of stars and awards night.
Same with the festival during Christmas holidays, no foreign films will be played in cinemas in the summer edition. MMFF is targetting Php 500M box-office gross.
