Life wasn't easy for Adrian S. Mandawe, of Dimataling town, Zamboanga del Sur. Born 6th among 7 siblings, Adrian's parents had been farming all their lives. All he ever wanted was to save his family from poverty and give them a better life.

After graduating at the Western Mindanao State University external studies unit in Pagadian, Adrian's next challenge was to pay for his review for the Criminology board exam.

Adrian didn't have enough money to pay for a full review course so he only enrolled for a 15-day review class. He said it was the "most that our family could afford.” That already cost his family up to P8,000.

Fueled with his determination to pass the board exam, Adrian went on to study on his own, spending 12 hours a day for 5 months.

Adrian's hardwork paid off as he scored a 89.80 rating, landing him top 9 among the more than 19,000 passers in the November 2019 Criminology board exam. Adrian admitted he was actually hoping to land top 1 but was pleased he still managed to enter the top 10.
