MANILA, Philippines – An 18-year-old female incoming De La Salle University (DLSU) student died after falling from the 10th-floor ledge of a Manila campus building in Malate on Thursday afternoon, August 13.

Police said the incident occurred at around 12:57 p.m. along Noli Agno Street corner F. Reyes Street in Barangay 708, Malate, Manila.

According to witnesses, a concerned citizen reported seeing a person at the ledge of the building’s 10th floor.

Security personnel went to check the area and found the woman lying prone on the ledge.

Police said the woman later rolled and fell to the ground.

A DLSU doctor responded to the scene but declared the woman dead.

Police said the woman was an incoming DLSU student who was last residing at the university’s Female Athletes Dormitory along F. Reyes Street in Barangay 714, Malate.

DLSU confirmed that an incident involving an incoming student who fell from a building on its Manila campus occurred Thursday.

The university said it has reached out to the student’s parents and is coordinating with authorities following the incident.

DLSU also said students who were in the vicinity have been debriefed and are undergoing counseling.

The incident was reported to Malate Police Station (PS-9) at around 1:35 p.m., police said.

The case was subsequently referred to the Manila Police District Homicide Section for further investigation.

Police have yet to establish the circumstances surrounding the fall as the investigation continues.

DLSU asked the public to respect the privacy of the student and her family and to maintain a supportive and compassionate environment during this difficult time.
