MANILA, Philippines – Classes have been suspended in some areas on Monday, July 1, 2019 due to southwest monsoon rains (Habagat) intensified by Tropical Depression Egay.

In the 11:00 am bulletin released by PAGASA, it says that monsoon rains may prevail over these areas on Monday: Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Antique and Aklan.

In addition, cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms is expected over the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

Mayor Joni Villanueva of Bocaue, Bulacan cited for the suspension of classes: "In anticipation of possible flash floods due to scattered moderate to heavy rains and thunder storms brought by southwest monsoon intensified by Tropical Depression Egay from 9am to 12nn and high tide level at 1.18m around 8:23am that may cause ponding in some schools and a way of preventive measure for the safety of students."

  • Quezon City - all levels, public and private
  • Malabon - preschool to senior high school, public and private
  • Navotas - preschool to senior high school, public and private

LUZON
  • Mariveles, Bataan - all levels, public and private
  • Balagtas, Bulacan - all levels, public and private
  • Baliwag, Bulacan - all levels, public and private
  • Bustos, Bulacan - preschool to senior high school, public and private
  • Bocaue, Bulacan - all levels, public and private
  • Hagonoy, Bulacan - all levels, public and private
  • Lian, Batangas - preschool to senior high school, public and private
  • Marilao, Bulacan - all levels, public and private
  • Meycauayan, Bulacan - all levels, public and private
  • Paombong, Bulacan - all levels, public and private
  • Sta. Maria, Bulacan - all levels, public and private
  • Angeles, Pampanga - pre-elementary to elementary, public and private

Meanwhile, PAGASA said that Bagyong Egay, estimated based on all available data at 820 km East of Infanta, Quezon or 760 km East of Casiguran, Aurora on Sunday morning, remains less likely to make landfall on any part of the country.

According to the automatic class suspension guideline by DepEd, LGUs have the authority to declare local suspensions in areas where there is no storm signal.
