Creepy passenger pays with real money, but Grab driver finds only leaves in wallet

Cab drivers, including those working with ride-hailing apps such as Grab, know the perils of working at night. Many of them might have a problem with staying awake, especially in the wee hours of morning when the human body is programmed to go to sleep.

There is also that danger of encountering robbers who might pretend to be passengers but take the day’s earnings from them.

But one Grab driver in Malaysia encountered a different kind of passenger, one that appeared alright and was even constantly laughing at the back seat. Despite not having someone to talk to at the back seat as she sat there alone, the woman kept on laughing. It puzzled the driver because she also didn’t seem to be talking to someone on the phone.

When he hit a pothole, the woman laughed harder as if she was amused about the whole thing. It was weird but the driver didn’t mind as long as she kept her hands to herself.

When the passenger got off the vehicle, she gave the driver money as payment for the fare which amounted to RM8 ($2).

After taking the money, the Grab driver put the money inside his wallet and thought nothing of the strange passenger again until he opened his wallet some time later, only to find eight pieces of leaves inside instead of the money the passenger paid him!

But how did the money turn into leaves? Or perhaps those were leaves all along and the passenger only made it appear that these were money?

Some netizens believe that the woman was actually a supernatural being who had magical powers. Perhaps she changed those leaves into money but the spell had a time limit and the cash reverted into leaves after some time?

Other netizens believe the Grab driver was a victim of hypnosis, something that is being used by the so-called ‘budol budol’ gang in the Philippines.

No matter the explanation, he wasn’t able to collect fare for that ride.

Some netizens suggested that he trace the woman through her details on the app but though he could see the trip details, the driver could not even check the rating or view the woman’s number. Is that a high-tech supernatural being, perhaps?
