MANILA, Philippines – So, we’re done fantasizing of mermaids with long hair, pretty face and sweet that is all familiar in big screen. In the new American TV drama series Siren, we’ll be seeing a murderous mermaid who will turn Bristol Cove upside-down. The first two episodes will surely awakens the horror in you.

‘Siren’ TV Series Review: Not your Disney-kind-of-mermaid story

In mythology, these aquatic beings are far from benign, and would prey on hapless seafarers by luring them with their hypnotic song. It’s these vicious mermaids of ancient times that are wreaking havoc not just in the water but also in land.

The scene starts in the dark ocean while fishermen of Bristol Cove caught something peculiar and dangerous, that turned out to be a siren. The siren injured one of the fisherman with its tail. Government agents captures the siren and later goes to study.

Meanwhile, Ben (Alex Roe) found a mysterious woman n*ked on the road. The non-verbal woman, Ryn (Eline Powell) was taken home. She later escapes through the window and was seen eating live rodents, slurping pureed smoothie intended for sea lions.

I’m absurdly surprised with what this series has to uncover. Ryn keeps me sane by how predatory and unearthly she portrays. You’ll keep yourself guessing from what skills or power she has, aside from her first take of self-defense scenes with a neighbor in Bristol and the scene with Ben under the deep night sea.

The more reason to watch this 10-episode series is the fact that there haven’t been too many familiar shows on TV about mermaids, certainly depicted as predators. Have a look towards the subject-matter as starting point, surely you’ll gonna like the story as it progresses.

Catch the two-hour special premiere of Siren first and exclusive on June 4, Monday at 9:45 PM in Blue Ant Entertainment; SKYcable channel 53 (SD) and 196 (HD), SKYdirect channel 35, Destiny Cable channel 53 and Cablelink channel 37 (SD) and 313 (HD).
