NU Pep Squad wins back-to-back UAAP Cheerdance title

MANILA, Philippines - The National University Bulldogs Pep Squad has retained its crown in the highly anticipated UAAP Cheerdance Competition (CDC) before a 22,093 crowd on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

NU Pep Squad posted a back-to-back wins in the Cheerdance Championship as they have defended the crown versus perennial champions University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas on their hope to reclaim lost glory.

After channeling "Aladdin" in last season's winning run, the NU Pep Squad took inspiration from "Pocahontas" this time around in their quest for win the most coveted title.

“Like in the past, our only objective is to show that NU is no longer the whipping boys of UAAP in cheerdancing, we’re happy to have been a catalyst in taking the competition to a higher level,” NU Bulldogs coach Ghicka Bernabe said.

The NU Pep Squad with 677.5 points went home with the grand prize of P340,000.

Other winners at the 2014 CDC are: UP with 658 points - first runner-up worth P 200,000 and UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe with 625 points - 2nd runner-up which pocketed P140,000.

The winners of the Group Stunts Competition were also announced: 2nd runner-up went to NU, the 1st runner-up award was grabbed by UST and grand champion was FEU Cheering Squad.

In the UAAP Season 77 Cheerdance wars, host UE was the first performer followed by FEU, UP, UST, Ateneo, La Salle, Adamson and NU in that order.
