Latest PAGASA Weather Update
- Tropical Depression Maymay (Kujira) has emerged over the Philippine Sea after crossing Northern Luzon.
- As of 4:00 PM, its center was estimated 150 km east-northeast of Echague, Isabela.
- The cyclone has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h, gusts of up to 70 km/h, and a central pressure of 1000 hPa.
- Only TCWS No. 1 remains in effect over parts of Northern Luzon as MAYMAY continues to weaken.
- PAGASA said MAYMAY may weaken into a remnant low tonight or early Saturday (August 8).
- The remnant low is forecast to move southeastward and merge with the larger circulation of Tropical Cyclone DOLPHIN.
- Heavy rainfall and strong winds may still affect areas outside the forecast track and confidence cone.

Areas under TCWS No. 1 may experience strong winds of 39 to 61 km/h, posing a minimal to minor threat to life and property.
Automatic Class Suspensions
The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued new guidelines under DepEd Order No. 14, s. 2026, empowering school heads to coordinate with Schools Division Superintendents and Local Government Units in determining CLASS SUSPENSIONS based on actual conditions in their communities.
The new policy allows for granular class suspensions, ensuring that only affected classrooms or grade levels are suspended when necessary, instead of imposing division-wide cancellations. The measure also provides guidance on selecting appropriate learning delivery modes before, during and after emergencies to help maintain continuity of education.
