MANILA, Philippines – Fresh off winning her maiden WTA singles title, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala is off to a winning start at the 2026 National Bank Open (Canadian Open) after advancing to the Round of 32 in Toronto.

The 21-year-old defeated American Alycia Parks, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, in her opening singles match after receiving a first-round bye in the WTA 1000 tournament.

The victory extended Eala's winning streak following her breakthrough title in Washington and avenged her Australian Open loss to Parks earlier this year.

The Canadian Open is one of the most prestigious events on the WTA Tour, with the singles champion earning 1,000 ranking points.

Eala is also competing in the doubles draw, where she has reunited with tennis legend Venus Williams.

Eala sets up McNally showdown

Eala earned a hard-fought 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Parks to reach the Round of 32 and continue the best stretch of her professional career.

The win also served as redemption after Parks rallied past Eala in the first round of the Australian Open earlier this season.

Awaiting the Filipina star is American Caty McNally, who pulled off one of the tournament's biggest upsets by eliminating reigning Wimbledon champion Linda Nosková.

A victory over McNally would send Eala into the Round of 16 of the prestigious WTA 1000 event.
