Carlos once again proved why he remains one of Asia’s premier gymnasts, posting a superb score of 14.700 to reclaim the continental crown and extend his dominance in his signature event.
The 26-year-old Olympic champion delivered a polished and technically demanding routine that earned the highest score of the competition, finishing ahead of Japan’s Shoma Tsukiyama, who settled for silver with 14.600 points.
Adding to the Philippines’ triumph was the breakthrough performance of 18-year-old Eldrew, who scored 14.300 to secure the bronze medal and claim his first-ever podium finish in a senior continental championship.
The result marked a historic moment for Philippine gymnastics as the Yulo brothers stood together on the podium in a major senior international tournament for the first time.
Carlos entered the competition as the top qualifier after recording 14.430 points in the preliminary round, while Eldrew advanced comfortably with a score of 13.600.
For Carlos, the victory added another prestigious chapter to an already decorated career that includes multiple Asian titles and Olympic glory, further cementing his status as the country’s greatest gymnast.
For Eldrew, the medal served as another milestone in his rapid rise through the senior ranks after making an immediate impact on the international stage earlier this year.
The younger Yulo has continued to impress since his senior debut in March, highlighted by a floor exercise gold medal at the Antalya World Cup and several podium finishes in the FIG World Cup circuit.
The Yulo brothers are not yet finished in Zunyi, with both athletes advancing to the horizontal bar final while Carlos also qualified for the parallel bars final, giving the Philippines more opportunities to add to its growing medal haul.
