"It turns out all the sleepless nights, hard work, and pushing myself beyond my limits to be better than my best were all worth it," John Michael shared in a heartfelt Facebook post.
He expressed gratitude to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to his parents, Minda and Michael Limbaga, for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
"To be honest, this journey has never been easy. It started with just participation awards from Grade 7 to Grade 9, but I always dreamed of becoming a medalist," John Michael revealed.
Being underestimated only fueled his determination, as he added, "I am thankful for those who doubted me, because if they hadn’t, I wouldn’t have found the strength to push myself beyond my limits."
John Michael emphasized self-competition, explaining, "I don’t compete with others—I compete with myself. My goal is to improve every single day."
Despite being labeled a “regular student” and not enrolled in special programs, he learned that "life is not about proving yourself to others—it’s about living the life you truly want."
Since Grade 9, John Michael has balanced academics with managing household responsibilities, proving that mindset and perseverance can turn distant dreams into achievements.
Reflecting on his victories, he said, "A gold medal does not shine because of its color, but because of the blood, sweat, and effort behind it."
During the moving-up ceremony, John Michael received top honors including Gold Medals from the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad, Philippine International Math and Science Olympiad, Angkor Mathematics Olympiad, Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad, and multiple Academia of International Minds awards.
He also earned Silver and Bronze medals, international merit awards, and represented the Philippines in competitions like the German Mathematics Olympiad and International Mathematics Competition.
His motto, “Practice like you’ve never won, perform like you’ve never lost,” reflects John Michael’s relentless pursuit of excellence and continues to inspire his peers and educators alike.
In his own words, "Who did? God did. All the honor and glory belongs to the most high," a testament to John Michael Camilosa Limbaga’s faith-driven journey toward academic greatness.
