BUTUAN CITY — Ethan Rene Magnaye, a Grade 12 student of Agusan National High School, has drawn widespread attention after graduating with highest honors and earning 41 awards during the school’s recent recognition ceremony.

Magnaye achieved an impressive General Weighted Average (GWA) of 98 percent, marking one of the highest academic distinctions in the institution and reflecting years of consistent dedication to excellence.

School officials noted that Ethan has represented Agusan National High School since Grade 7 in division, regional, national, and international competitions, excelling across English, Mathematics, and Science.

Among his standout accomplishments are a Gold Award in the Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad Final Round and a Diamond Award in the International Science Olympiad Competition of Southeast Asia (ISOCSEA) National Round 2025, alongside numerous recognitions from international contests in Southeast Asia.

Despite the remarkable list of accolades, Ethan remained grounded and emphasized that success was never about recognition alone but about perseverance and purpose.

“I am filled with overwhelming gratitude for the path that led me to this moment. All the honor and glory belong to the Most High,” Ethan shared in a Facebook post following the recognition ceremony.

He underscored the role of sacrifice behind every milestone, saying, “My journey has never been about the medals alone; it has been about the strength and sacrifice that made them possible.”

Ethan Rene Magnaye also paid tribute to his parents, acknowledging their unwavering support and the challenges they endured to make his achievements possible.

“To my Dad, Rene Magnaye—thank you for being my rock and my foundation,” he said, while also honoring his mother, Marjorie Luis Magnaye, an overseas nurse who faced risks abroad just to attend his graduation.

“Mommy, your bravery taught me how to be fearless, and Daddy, your constant presence gave me the strength to persevere. These awards belong to both of you,” Ethan added.

In addition to his accomplishments in mathematics and science, Ethan Rene Magnaye is also a decorated campus journalist, earning recognition in sports writing at both division and regional levels.

As he concludes his high school journey, Ethan leaves behind not only an impressive collection of awards but also a story of humility, resilience, and inspiration for future generations.
