MANILA, Philippines – Several schools and local government units across the country announced class suspensions on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in observance of the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
Although the date was declared only a special working holiday by the national government, many academic institutions opted to cancel in-person classes or shift to alternative learning activities to allow students and staff to commemorate the historic event.
February 25 marks the anniversary of the peaceful 1986 People Power Revolution that led to the ouster of former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and restored democratic rule in the Philippines.
Some schools scheduled reflection programs and community activities, while others implemented asynchronous or alternative learning modes for the day.
This list will be updated as more advisories are released by school administrations and local authorities.

Palace studying regular holiday proposal
Malacañang said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will study proposals seeking to declare February 25 a regular holiday every year to formally commemorate the EDSA People Power Revolution.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said lawmakers may submit their versions of the measure for the President’s review and appropriate action.
House Bill 7911 proposes declaring the date a regular holiday to recognize the peaceful 1986 uprising.
In 2023, the administration moved the February 25 holiday to February 24 to create a long weekend under its “holiday economics” policy, while in succeeding years the date was not included in the official holiday list.
Castro noted that while additional holidays may affect business operations, Filipinos remain free to observe and commemorate the historic event.
