MANILA, Philippines – Long before she held a microphone and delivered breaking news to millions, Karen De Guzman was just another student in the crowd, quietly watching her idol and daring to dream that she could one day stand where Karen Davila stood.

In 2015, she first saw the veteran broadcaster during a college seminar, seated among classmates, absorbing every word like a promise meant only for her.
“Nakikinig at nangangarap na balang araw, maging kagaya niya rin,” she later wrote, capturing the innocence of a dream that felt both distant and urgent.
That dream followed her into the halls of ABS-CBN News, where she began as an intern, waiting outside the ANC studio just to ask Davila for a photo.
Even then, the smallest encounters felt monumental, as if proximity to her idol already meant progress.
By 2016, she was working behind the scenes as a researcher, still a self-confessed fangirl who once asked Davila to sign a magazine feature.
“Looking back now, it makes me smile how big of an inspiration she has always been to me,” she shared in a heartfelt Facebook post.
Years of quiet work, long hours, and field assignments slowly transformed admiration into mastery and aspiration into ability.
In 2022, De Guzman officially became a reporter, stepping in front of the camera with the same newsroom she once timidly walked through as a fan.
Who would have thought that a simple fangirl would one day work alongside her idol? 🥹♥️ I first saw Ms. Karen Davila...

“One of the things that secretly made me happiest was getting to banter with Ms. Karen on-air,” she admitted, describing the surreal thrill of calling her idol a colleague.
Then came the unscripted moment that would charm viewers online and seal her full-circle journey in the most unexpected way.
During a live handoff, Davila accidentally introduced herself instead, blurting, “Nagpa-patrol Karen Davila, ay Karen De [Guzman]!”
The seasoned anchor quickly laughed and apologized, posting, “OMG… ay… Karen De Guzman! Apologies,” a gesture that showed both humility and grace.
De Guzman responded warmly, tweeting, “Hahaha. Hi Ma’am @iamkarendavila!! You made my day po hihi,” turning the blooper into a shared joke rather than an awkward slip.
Netizens praised the exchange, calling it professional, genuine, and refreshingly human for two journalists often seen only through the seriousness of headlines.
For De Guzman—named after Davila and now working beside her—the viral moment was more than comedy, because sometimes dreams do not simply come true, they come full circle.
FUN FACT: I was really named after Ms. Karen Davila. ❤️💚💙
