MANILA, Philippines – Several local government units (LGUs) have announced the suspension of classes on Monday, January 5, 2026, due to persistent shearline-induced heavy rains.

  • Albay
    • Tabaco – no face-to-face classes in all levels, public and private; shift to modular learning

According to PAGASA’s 4:00 PM update on Sunday, a shear line is currently affecting the Visayas and the eastern sections of Southern Luzon, while the northeast monsoon (amihan) continues to affect the rest of Luzon, and easterlies are influencing Mindanao.

Specifically, the affected areas of the shear line are: Visayas, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Romblon. The condition will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms.

As of 2:00 PM today, PAGASA reported that there is no low-pressure area (LPA) being monitored for possible tropical cyclone formation.
