MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that voter registration for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections will begin on October 20, 2025.
The registration will run nationwide until May 18, 2026, except in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Comelec Chairman George Garcia explained that registration in BARMM will be held separately—from May 1 to May 18, 2026—to avoid confusion among voters in the region.
Garcia said the Comelec decided to start the registration later in BARMM because the first BARMM parliamentary elections are scheduled for March 2026. Holding both activities simultaneously, he added, might lead voters to think the registration is for the parliamentary polls.
The poll body expects around 1.4 million new applicants during the seven-month registration period.
In comparison, nearly three million individuals submitted their applications during the last nationwide voter registration held from August 1 to 10.
The Barangay and SK Elections are set to be conducted nationwide in December 2026.
