MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck La Union at 10:30 a.m. on October 9, 2025, with its epicenter 2 km north-northeast of Pugo at a depth of 10 km, as reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The tectonic quake caused Intensity V shaking in Baguio City and Intensity III in Aringay, La Union; Bontoc, Mountain Province; and Sison, Pangasinan.
Other areas such as San Fernando, La Union; Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija; and Dagupan felt Intensity II, while Lingayen and Urdaneta, Pangasinan reported Intensity I.
Authorities warned that some damage is expected and advised residents to check structures and secure loose objects.
Phivolcs said no aftershocks are expected, but residents should remain alert and follow earthquake safety procedures.
