It can be recalled that Torre accepted Duterte’s alleged challenge to a fistfight, which stemmed from the latter’s remark that Torre is only brave because he holds a position.
In a video that surfaced on social media, Torre can be seen training inside the PNP gym at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Thursday, July 24.
“Tamang-tama dahil marami ang nasalanta ngayon ng bagyo at baha. Maybe we can use this moment, or use this opportunity to raise funds. Charity boxing match! Para mabilis, this coming Sunday? [Hulyo 27], sa Araneta. 12 rounds, puwede. 12 rounds ng suntukan para maganda at marami-rami ang ma-raise natin,” Torre said during an interview last Wednesday, July 23.
According to Manila Bulletin, he was asked if Duterte will show up too.
“It’s all up to him… it will be at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. A (boxing) ring is already being set up there. There are already sponsors who committed to giving ayuda (relief goods) to those affected by the typhoon,” Torre said following his boxing practice at the PNP gym on Thursday.
“Anytime, I am ready. Now if he’s not there, we will just continue with our activity of giving ayuda to our kababayan,” he said.
As of this writing, Duterte and his camp have yet to confirm whether he accepts Torre’s challenge.
Ironically, it was Duterte himself who initiated the whole thing by challenging Torre to a fistfight during one of his podcast episodes.
