MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Depression Crising continues to maintain its strength as it moves northwestward over the sea east of the Bicol Region, according to the latest 5:00 a.m. bulletin from PAGASA on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

As of 4:00 a.m., the center of Crising was located approximately 535 km east of Juban, Sorsogon.

It is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h, gusts of up to 70 km/h, and a central pressure of 1000 hPa.

The tropical depression is moving west-northwest at 15 km/h, with strong winds extending up to 300 km from the center.

Areas Under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1

The following areas in Luzon are currently under TCWS No. 1:

  • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
  • Isabela
  • the northeastern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao)
  • Quirino
  • Kalinga
  • the eastern portion of Mountain Province (Sadanga, Barlig, Paracelis, Natonin)
  • the eastern portion of Ifugao (Alfonso Lista, Aguinaldo, Mayoyao, Banaue, Hingyon, Lagawe, Lamut)
  • the northeastern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Kasibu, Quezon, Bagabag, Diadi)
  • Apayao

Track and Intensity Outlook

Over the next 48 hours, Crising is expected to continue on a northwestward path.

  • Landfall is possible over mainland Cagayan sometime between tomorrow evening and early Saturday (July 19).
  • After landfall, the system is forecast to cross the northern portion of Northern Luzon.
  • Crising may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday evening or Sunday morning (July 20).

Forecast models indicate that Crising may intensify into a Tropical Storm within the day. Further strengthening is expected, and it may reach Severe Tropical Storm category by tomorrow afternoon or evening as it approaches Northern Luzon.

2025 Tropical Cyclones So Far

Crising is the third tropical cyclone to enter or form within the Philippine Area of Responsibility in 2025.

Historically, the Philippines experiences an average of 20 tropical cyclones each year, with roughly half making landfall.
