MANILA, Philippines – Taking the licensure exam is no easy feat, especially for demanding degree programs like civil engineering. It takes countless sleepless nights, unwavering effort, and, quite literally, blood, sweat, and tears to prepare and review for it.
Add to that the challenges of age and family responsibilities, and the journey becomes even more daunting.
That’s why passing the exam, especially after multiple failed attempts, can bring anyone to tears. It becomes a powerful moment of triumph: a reward for persistence, resilience, and the refusal to give up on the dream of earning that long-awaited license.
A 52-year-old working mother has captured the admiration of netizens, especially aspiring civil engineers, after finally passing the Civil Engineering Licensure Examination (CELE).

Her story was featured on the Facebook page of Kippap Civil Engineering Review, where Engr. Daffodil Sagucio shared the strategies that helped her succeed, despite the challenges of juggling work and motherhood.
“Engr. Daffodil” graduated way back in 1993 and had taken the board exam more than ten times without passing. But she refused to give up. With the help of the program offered by the review center, she gave it one more try, and this time, she made it.
In an interview, she proudly shared that she is now a registered civil engineer. She credited the review center's clear lectures, well-structured presentations, and the mentorship provided by board topnotchers, who now serve as lecturers, for her success.
Her story serves as a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to chase your dreams, no matter how long it takes.
