MANILA, Philippines – PLDT and its wireless arm, Smart Communications, experienced a widespread service disruption on Friday afternoon, June 20, leaving many subscribers without internet access and struggling to make calls.
Outage tracking site downdetector.ph recorded a surge in reports from PLDT, Smart, and TNT subscribers experiencing service issues at around 3:58 p.m.
Users also flooded the official Facebook pages of PLDT and Smart with complaints, primarily about the loss of internet connectivity.
Subscribers took to social media to air their grievances, pushing “PLDT” to the top of the trending list on X (formerly Twitter).
Many shared disrupted online work, and interrupted communication, calling on the telco giant for immediate action and transparency.
Meanwhile, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) informed the general public that they experienced an internet outage which affects the their online services. "We are actively coordinating with our Internet Service Provider to restore connectivity as soon as possible."
BDO Unibank on their part advised that their apps, website, branch services, ATMs, and Contact Center are currently unavailable due to nationwide telco issues. "We're working closely with our telco partners to restore the services as soon as possible."
PLDT network issue resolved, apologizes to affected users
PLDT assured customers that the service disruption affecting some users on Friday has been resolved.
“We encountered a technical issue earlier today that caused intermittent service for some Smart mobile and PLDT fiber users in parts of Metro Manila and Central Luzon,” the company said in a statement.
“The issue has since been resolved, and services should now be back to normal. We recommend restarting your devices to refresh your connection.”
PLDT also apologized to affected subscribers and appealed for their understanding.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding,” it added.
