In an interview with “When In Manila” website, he proudly recounted his remarkable journey marked by perseverance, commitment, and unwavering determination—a story that’s sure to inspire anyone chasing their dreams.
According to the article, Dr. Bautista's journey into medicine and law was not something he originally planned, but rather a path shaped by a growing sense of purpose. He confessed that he initially opted to study nursing because of its high demand, but after seeing the significant influence of healthcare professionals, he was motivated to pursue medicine.
He shared that his time in the medical field made him aware of systemic issues that could be more effectively tackled through policy and legal advocacy. This insight prompted him to study law, which later allowed him to specialize in areas like medical malpractice.
He obtained his nursing and medicine degrees from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMC) and his law degree from De La Salle University.
Bautista admits that the path he took was not easy, as everyone knows that the degree programs he pursued are both considered "difficult," and are certainly not something to take lightly.
After his shift at the clinic (8:00am to 12:pm), he would go directly to the library to study before attending his law classes in the evening (6:00pm to 9:00pm). In addition to this, he also worked as a corporate physician.
For Bautista, time management became easier as he had already gotten used to it during his time as a medical student.
He then shared that one of the greatest challenges he encountered was battling self-doubt, which was fueled by academic pressure. However, with the support of his family and friends, he was able to overcome it.
Aside from these challenges, Dr. Bautista faced additional hurdles along his journey. While preparing for the 2024 Bar Exam, he sustained a spinal cord injury that impacted his focus. He regards passing the Bar as his greatest achievement.
He ended the interview by sharing his aspiration to teach and pass on his knowledge to future generations of medical professionals and lawyers.
Congratulations, Dr. and Atty. Bautista!
