Female tricycle driver inspires online community: ‘Pag tamad ka, nganga ka!’

In the Philippines, it's not typical to see a woman driving a tricycle. Usually, when you say "tricycle driver," people immediately think of a man. But as time passes, gender stereotyping in jobs and tasks is gradually breaking down. If men can do it, women can do it too.

Netizens admired a female tricycle driver who posted her photo in an online community for tricycle drivers and passengers.

In her post, Melanie Maravilla Arela, a member of the "Tricycle Group Philippines" on Facebook, conveyed the disparity in earnings between her job as a tricycle driver and those in air-conditioned offices. She highlighted the distinctions between their work environments and the standard 8-hour office shifts. She is a working mom.

She gave a message to people who belittle or discriminate against certain jobs.

Kudos, Melanie! You are truly an inspiration to all women and mothers!
